For many years I jointly headed the litigation department of a major Belfast Commercial Practice, and for the last 20 years I have concentrated increasingly on employment and discrimination matters. I advise clients on disciplinary and grievance matters which are often complex and in particular disability or other discrimination concerns, making reasonable adjustments and dealing with mental health issues.
I advise a wide range of public and private sectors on TUPE/Service Provision Change often involving public procurement processes, whether for the public authority, the transferor/transferee or the employees.

I am a Partner in Jones Cassidy Brett. I am dual qualified and advise on all aspects of employment law in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
I have significant experience of advising clients on all manner of employment issues including disciplinary and grievances, redundancies and restructuring, restrictive covenants, employment related litigation and TUPE.
I provide the full range of employment services from drafting, reviewing and harmonising employment contracts and policies and procedures to advising clients on complex disciplinary and grievance issues, bullying and harassment matters, large scale reorganisations and sensitive executive severances.
Joanne Lightburn LL.B (Hons)
I am a Senior Associate Solicitor at Jones Cassidy Brett.
I am dual qualified and advise on all aspects of employment law in Northern Ireland as well as Great Britain (GB), having practised for 9 years at a large leading commercial law firm in Leeds, West Yorkshire.
I have extensive experience in Employment Tribunal litigation, specialising in complex discrimination and whistleblowing claims. I also specialise in providing strategic advice to public and private sector clients on non-contentious matters such as TUPE negotiations and large-scale business reorganisations, often involving collective redundancy programmes. In addition, I provide practical advice on day-to-day HR matters as well as complex disciplinary and grievance issues. I also advise on aspects of public administrative law.
I am Office Manager/Legal Assistant with Jones Cassidy Brett, joining the firm in July 1996.
My role incorporates human resources, business and marketing, and administration duties. I develop and maintain the Firm’s case quality management system, Lexcel, which is the Law Society’s accreditation indicating excellence. This standard requires the regular updating and auditing of policies, strategies and plans. Jones Cassidy Brett has achieved success compliance within this framework since 2011.
I also assist the Partners and solicitors with the preparation for tribunals, court hearings, tenders and related matters, conducting research on relevant laws, regulations, and legal articles.

I am Paralegal with Jones Cassidy Brett Solicitors.
I graduated from the University of Chester with an Honours degree in Law. I went on to attend the University of Law in Bristol, where I graduated from the Legal Practice Course and completed a Masters in Law and Business. Working in the Human Resources department of large manufacturing company has given me invaluable, first-hand experience in disciplinary and grievance procedures in NI and ROI.
